Solicitor, Holiday Claims
Darrel read Law at Lancaster University from 1994 – 1997, studied the Legal Practice Course at the Chester College of Law in 1997/98, before then taking up a training contract with a central Manchester law firm in 1998; he qualified as a Solicitor in October 2000. He has worked as a Claimant Solicitor in the Personal Injury sector throughout his professional career, helping people recover compensation for injuries and financial losses sustained in many different types of accident at firms in Manchester and Cheshire. Darrel joined colemans-ctts (which in 2015 became a part of Simpson Millar LLP) in January 2014, moving into his current role in the Travel & Tourism department later that same year. Since then he has specialised exclusively in advising and assisting those who have been unfortunate enough to suffer accidents abroad, on flights or at sea, whether on package holidays or tailor-made breaks and whether or not they travelled with or without holiday insurance.
Being injured abroad can be difficult to cope with, giving rise to a variety of complex legal and practical issues not only in resort but also in its aftermath on returning home; Darrel seeks to try to identify and address those complexities early and tackle them head on whilst giving honest and constructive advice to his clients. He appreciates that people invest a lot of time, money and emotion in their holidays, and whilst cases of this nature can take a long time to resolve Darrel endeavours to minimise the inevitable frustration that can flow from that by taking great care in being approachable and personable with his clients, tailoring his style to suit the needs and demands of his clients and always encouraging them to ask questions or to query anything that they have concerns about or are not familiar with.
Darrel is married with 1 daughter, and also has two family dogs. Most of his spare time is spent keeping his daughter and the dogs entertained, though he is also a keen sports fan and has been a season ticket holder at Blackburn Rovers FC since he was a boy.
