Third fatal fall from Magaluf hotel balcony in one month
A 23-year-old British woman on holiday in Magaluf, Majorca has fallen to her death from her hotel balcony within hours of arriving at the resort.
Charlotte Faris from Stevenage in Hertfordshire reportedly fell 30ft (10m) from her third-floor apartment at the holiday resort on Saturday (05/05/12), at around 4.30pm. Paramedics spent 20 minutes trying to revive Ms Faris who had stayed at the same hotel last year and was known to locals.
Ms Faris was staying at a Hotel in Magaluf with a female friend – the hotel is near the resort centre. She is the third British holidaymaker to die in a fall from their hotel balcony in the last month – it is not yet known what caused her to fall.
Ms Faris’ family released a statement through Hertfordshire Police:
“Charlotte was a very loving and much loved daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. We are still trying to come to terms with our devastating loss.”
The owner of a bar next to the hotel said that locals were saddened by the death of Ms Faris.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said:
“We are aware and can confirm the death of British national Charlotte Faris in Mallorca on 5 May.
“We are providing consular assistance to her family.”
In April, two male holidaymakers fell to their deaths from hotel balconies in Magaluf – one was found to have consumed large quantities of alcohol, while the second man was at first reported to have been climbing between balconies at the time of his death – his father later disputed this and said his son was leaning over the balcony while having a cigarette when he fell.
