Holiday Village Rhodes – illness Outbreak hits Holidaymakers
Simpson Millar Solicitors have been alerted by reports of a disturbing illness outbreak at the Holiday Village resort in Kolymbia – Rhodes.
Reports are being received from holidaymakers returning in July from the recently opened Rhodes Holiday Village operated by First Choice Holidays.
Many Holidaymakers ill in Greece
Holidaymakers returning from the Holiday Village in Rhodes are reporting many guests becoming ill with symptoms of vomiting. Sites including the popular consumer forum Tripadvisor are posting further reports.
Alarmingly, observers claim many ambulances have been seen ferrying the hotels guests to hospital, suggesting a very serious incident. The cause of the illness outbreak has not been confirmed but it appears from early reports to only be affecting part of the complex. This is inconsistent with the illness being viral – a norovirus would usually affect an entire hotel complex. If the illness bug is not viral then concerns must be towards the illness being bacterial.
Nick Harris, Head of Travel Law at Simpson Millar Solicitors who specialise in Illness Abroad Claims said:
“I would urge anyone who is ill to seek urgent medical attention. Whilst the source of the illness is not yet known it is imperative that early medical intervention is sought.”
“We understand that First Choice are claiming that the sickness outbreak at the Holiday Village Rhodes is due to an airborne virus and that independent hygiene specialists have given the hotel the all clear. I am not able to comment yet but the fact only one side of the complex appears to have been affected does not indicate a virus to me.”
“I am currently instructed by more than 100 holidaymakers who were struck ill at the Holiday Village in Sarigerme – Turkey last summer. Many of those were initially informed that their illness was caused by an airborne virus.”
“It later transpired that many had contracted salmonella food poisoning and cryptosporidium – an infection caused by water contaminated by human faeces.”
Children are particularly at risk from stomach infections which through profuse diarrhoea and vomiting can lead to dehydration very quickly – if you suffer from these symptoms it is vital to keep drinking fluids.
