Before you leave your holiday is changed
What if the holiday company or tour operator wants to change any part of your holiday, such as the dates, the hotel or even the resort?
Step 1
You are entitled to:
- Receive a refund for the difference in price when you accept an inferior quality holiday
- A better or equivalent holiday without being charged anymore
- Receive a refund without a cancellation fee
In the first instance, contact the holiday company and enquire what substitutes they are offering. If you think an alternative arrangement or partial refund is not good enough try and negotiate for something superior.
Depending on the circumstances you may also be entitled to compensation.
Step 2
Decide whether to accept a full refund, an alternative hotel or holiday. Confirm your decision by writing to the company.
Step 3
If the holiday company refuses to give you a full refund, write to the company, telling it that it is in breach of the Package Travel Regulations, and giving it a final chance to refund your money before taking any further action.
Step 4
You can take your case to arbitration through ABTA if the company still refuses to refund your money to the Small Claims Court if you prefer.
